Indian Golden Oriol

I am not into any wildlife or bird photography, but a rare sighting does make me eager to capture few moments of wildlife. On a winter morning, I saw an Indian Golden Oriol, parched on a tree near by and I literally ran off to get the camera for a few snaps.

Interestingly, it patiently posed for the camera till the shoot was over! (though the shoot never ends).

Here are two images of the beautiful bird.

Expressions: Kathakali

Kathakali, the highly expressive & dramatic dance form, is performed to depict religious and mythological stories from the Hindu culture. The detailed makeup of an artist is a part of the representation of the character being played. And the facial expressions are at the very heart of the dance and take years of dedication for one to master.

Following are two images from one such performance at a local theatre in Thekkady, Kerala.

Monsoon is here

After a long break of more than 3 years, here is an image clicked when monsoon is just about to start.
The pre-monsoon showers bring a great show of light, shadow and sound (and we don’t have to pay for it). The lightening was shot during one such evening from the terrace of my home. It was a challenge to capture the exact moment and get the exposure before it’s gone.
The communication tower adds some sense of the scale to the lightening column.
